The Name Is Bond
Lets spare a minute of our busy day to think about James Bond. An unusual idea, I know, but bear with me, it’s worth a ponder.
James Bond, a spy for the British government, lost both parents in youth, which gave him abandonment issues. After excelling in the royal navy, he was recruited by the intelligence service, and was given his 007 status after carrying out two assassinations. A great career profile, some would argue. And the perks of the job are in no doubt; the cars. They often include weapon systems, anti pursuit, and my favourite, in the case of an emergency, a defibrillator for restarting the heart once poison has been consumed. Handy in every eventuality. Bond has driven the Aston Martin DB5, an Audi 200, a Ford Thunderbird and a Lotus Esprit Turbo, to name but a few. He has also had the pleasure of taking trains and private jets, but the cars go above and beyond any company car that you can expect with even the best of jobs.
But this leads me to the point, what must his car insurance premium be like? In the days of the recession, and everyone searching online for Cheap Car Insurance, what horror must James Bond feel when he sees the bill for his policy? And would anyone ever insure him? It smacks of the newly passed teenage boy, who has a Vauxhall nova, but the car insurance policy is more a month than the car is worth.
I’m not sure Mr Bond would ever get insured. You can imagine the conversation with his company, “Well Mr Bond, unfortunately we do not offer insurance at this present time for a Lamborghini with a missile attached to the back, unfortunately it is not conducive with Britain’s roads”. I think that with his previous driving history, writing of four cars in ‘The World Is Not Enough’ alone, and, if he did have the luck, he would pay for it through the nose.. A bit of a sting in the wallet, even for one of the world’s most prominent characters.
