How many pounds per year would it take for a family of four to live an easy middle-class life in Surrey/Kent?
I define an easy, comfortable middle-class life as owning your own 4 bedroom detatched house in a Home Counties market town or village like Dorking or Sevenoaks. Two kids being educated in private day schools like say St. Paul’s or Surbiton in London. Own 2 late model European saloon cars like say an Audi and a BMW. Enough money to feed and clothe everyone in your family to the level of people of this class. Plus enough money to take two foreign holidays a year–say a week in Barbados over winter and a week in Provence or Tuscany in summer.
How much income per year would one have to earn in order to be able to sufficiently afford such a lifestyle?
A hundred grand a year before tax.
