a better way judge when to change gears is to use the tachohmmeter ,and go by the rpm,s on an engine rather than the speed ometer on one ,this is how the good drivers actually choose when to change gears on a racing engine they go by the rpm,s and the sound of the engine each engine gives a certain sound to go by,and once you know this sound you can wind it up to that sound without hurting it,it takes practice to learn this ,good luck,i hope this help,s.
