What would the Bugatti Veyron Engine make in terms of Horse Power w/o 4 TURBOS?
Everyone makes such a big deal out of this engine because its so powerful, but it seems like just about any engine could make 1000 hp w/ 4 turbos. What do you think the W16 makes w/o turbos. And do you think it could make a lot more if you replaced those tiny turbos with some bigger ones. Maybe even add a supercharger to make up for the low end torch your loosing. I don’t know. I’m just kinda curious i guess. Another thing that just doesn’t seem right with an engine with this much hype is it only revs to 6500. it would be a lot more fun if it went to like 8000. Do you think there is a way to make that happen. God i would love to see someone just buy the engine and trick it out for there own use and their own car. like a 1500 hp monster reving to 8000 and best of all, RWD. Sounds like a beautiful dream
The speed an engine revs to is irrelevant in most cases. Take the S2000, sure it can rev to 9000 RPM, but it’s gutless below 6000 RPM, Same deal with the RX-8. The Veyron has *many* moving parts, so in the interest of reliability and the fact that it makes most of it’s power at around 6000 RPM, the redline is set at 6500 going any higher than that and you’re just making noise. Also there’s a reason why the Veyron is AWD, having 1000+ HP going to the rear wheels only would make it very difficult to drive, there would be near-constant wheelspin. Not “any” engine can make 1000 HP. Only a few blocks can take that kind of power for any length of time without cracking, the internals of the engine have to be very robust as well.
The Veyron was an engineering exercise to see what kind of car can be made if price isn’t an object. The chances of some random person being able to out-engineer a team of Germans with near unlimited funds at their discretion is..slight.
It should be pointed out that the road speed of the vehicle has little to no impact on whether or not engine will “blow”.
One could gear a car so that it’s only turning 3000 RPM at 220 MPH. Engines *can* blow from excessive *engine* speed. But road speed doesn’t factor into the equation.
