Theissen, BMW Kubica Crash, Indy Race
BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, reports key events in the last race Montreal. He also gave suggestions on what is expected in the next race in Indianapolis.
Asked by Robert Kubica crash in race Sunday, Mario Theissen said: "I could not judge the seriousness of the accident by the initial television pictures. Then, seeing the first impact of the repetition great shock to us all. I was waiting on the wall watching the screens until the rescue work is finished and then went to the clinic to see Robert. Having established that had not suffered serious injury, the team returned to tell the good news and then the rest of the race from the pit wall. "
Kubica was released from the hospital two days after accident. The Polo has hinted he is ready to run in the U.S. Grand Prix. "It's great that he feels ready to compete and not suffer the consequences of the accident. The Chief Medical Officer has the final say after Robert has been examined in Indianapolis Thursday. We are ready if Robert will not be able to drive. But of course we are all waiting to be aligned in the car on weekends. Scenario Ideally I'd like each of us to put the accident behind us quickly with a good performance in the race, "said Mario Theissen.
Currently, BMW is inspecting what remained of Kubica's car, including Radiator BMW> BMW radiator fan and the chassis. F1.07 chassis] [Kubica will be examined in Hinwil and we will try to understand as much as possible of the accident. However, the damage pattern gives us information that can be used to refine our calculations and further improve monocoque construction in the future. In all cases, the damage to F1.07-07 chassis is so severe that not to be used again on the track. If you can fix everything that will be used in the test device. If it is totally beyond repair, will be rejected. "
The Montreal race has started the debate on the effectiveness of security technology to save lives in cars and Formula One possibility to transfer to road vehicles. Theissen said: "The demands involved in series production are different from those of F1, and the materials used. However, the objective is the same - to produce a sustainable passenger cell surrounded by crash elements which effectively absorbs impact energy. Daily practice comfort and manufacturing costs, play a role in the production of road cars. In Formula One must do what is technically possible. The interior and restraint systems tailored to a person. "
He added: "In a production vehicle, four, five or even more people on board. Vehicles road transport in general, be constructed of steel or aluminum, while an F1 monocoque is made of carbon fiber. While vehicles have a crumple zone, the cockpit of a formula racing car is surrounded by elements of the accident and designed to absorb the extreme forces generated a collision. Formula One cars must pass the tests more stringent FIA. "
Despite the terrible accident Kubica, BMW Sauber one thing to celebrate - Nick Heidfeld get second place. In addition, the victory of the team stops scoring. I am very proud of this equipment. Nick certainly did not finish second by default. All incidents of Sunday's race took place behind him. This was his second place on merit - he was just faster than a McLaren and Ferrari. "
