The naturally aspirated version, 16-valve 2.0 liter of 1998 cc (121.9 cubic inches) ast iron block engine is the successor the OHC-engines and a predecessor line, 16-valve Ecotec.

The turbo version of the C20XE, C20LET brand was introduced in Calibra Opel Vectra / Vauxhall Turbo. The C20LET is essentially the same as the C20XE, the bar lower compression, forged Mahle pistons turbocharger, Bosch Motronic M2.7 with a MAP sensor. There are also minor revisions to the block that provide oil inlet / outlet of the turbocharger.

Opel later developed a 2.5-liter V6 engine based on the design of the C20XE. GM 54-Degree V6 engine features four overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. The C25XE found use in Calibra V6 A/A2 / Omega and Vectra A (known as the Vauxhall Carlton in the United Kingdom).

The first Opel Ecotec engine as a brand, a successor to the mass market C20XE the stock with a Lotus-developed. The new leader had a small valve angle to the C20XE old, who was supposed to give more torque in the lower towers. Is a 1998 cc (121.9 cubic inches) aspirated engine with 16 valves and belt driven camshaft general double (DOHC). 86 mm (3.4 inches) in diameter and career-iron cylinder block and CHO-derived aluminum cylinder heads. Ecotec
Ecotec name was adopted in 2000 for the new generation of Family II engines. The name was already used for engine II GM Opel family, a family and family ranges 0. GM intends this new Ecotec to become its global 4-cylinder.
The Ecotec Family II is a design 4-valve DOHC with aluminum block and head (L850 of 86 mm diameter L880 applications and 88 mm in diameter), designed to travel from 1.8 to 2.4 L. It was developed by an international team of engineers and technicians from Opel's International Technical Development Center in Rsselsheim, Germany, currently lead GM in Pontiac, Michigan, and Saab Trollhttan, Sweden. [Citation needed] Most of the work of this project was carried out by Lotus Engineering, Hethel, United Kingdom. The engine uses aluminum pistons and liners Cast iron cylinder. Vibration is reduced to two balance shafts.
The current Ecotec line is manufactured in Tonawanda, New York, Kaiserslautern, Germany, and (for Saturn) in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Ecotec LNF in a Pontiac Solstice
Turbo direct injection (redubbed Spark Ignition Direct Injection) Ecotec was introduced in 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line. This is an engine mounted longitudinally. The displacement is 2.0 L1, 998 cc (121.9 cubic inches) on a square 86 mm (3.4 in.) bore and stroke. Compression is 9.2:1 and the maximum is 1.4 bar (20.0 psi), delivering 260 hp (190 kW) at 5300 rpm and 260 lbft (350 Nm) of torque 25,005,250 rpm. Engine redline is 6300 rpm and premium gasoline is recommended. Filled exhaust valves sodium is based on technology developed for the Corvette V8 powertrain. Sodium melts and becomes a liquid at rest, which improves the thermal conductivity and surface of the valve guide and valve of the mother to be cooled by engine oil circulating within the company. Injection systems tree cam driven direct fuel at a pressure of 52 bar (750 psi) at idle and up to 155 bar (2250 psi) with the gas wide open. The "Gen II" The block is similar to 2.4 and also incorporates VVT technology. The Gen II block was developed using data from career programs and computer simulations. The basic architecture of the Family II was redesigned in 2000, becoming the model Ecotec 2.2, L61 (L42 or CNG version). first on the Saturn LS1 2000, spread through the products of GM North America in L61, move the Quad 4 and its descendants.

There are variations of the standard L61. The new Chevrolet Malibu uses a version with electronic throttle control and Special unit converter exhaust manifold and a catalyst. The Saturn L-Series 2003 has a high performance version with a higher compression (10:1) and more aggressive camshaft. Malibu and Saturn versions also use fuel injection performance below. The Saturn VUE 2002 was the first North American variant of the L61 to be equipped with electronic throttle control, while other applications are not raised until 2005 in the Saturn Ion and Chevrolet Cobalt. The compressor and the intake manifold of the 2.0 Ecotec engine can be purchased as a kit and GM official with the software modification of the SCM, you can create a supercharged version 2.2 of this engine.
In 2007, the L61 has been updated with a case of second-generation cylinder, the ignition coil plug, crankshaft position sensor 58x and a team of 32 bits.

The LSJ is a supercharged version of the Ecotec engine with a compressor LK9 Eaton M62 Roots-type intercooled and air-liquid. This engine has 205 horsepower (153 kW) at 5600 rpm and 200 lbft (271 Nm) at 4400 rpm with a 9.5:1 compression ratio and redline at 6500 rpm. With the end of the Chevrolet Cobalt SS S / C and Saturn Ion Red Line, The LSJ will not be available in a production car after 2007.
