If you decide to lease a used Mercedes Benz car or vehicle, it can seem easier for the buyer to purchase insurance from the very same company the buyer purchased it from. What you may not know is that you may end up paying way too much for coverage on your used Mercedes and it is much more beneficial to look somewhere else for lower rates, prices and better coverage.
When you lease your used Mercedes, the Mercedes Benz that you will lease and drive belongs to the company leasing it to you. The company leasing the car to you will want to make sure that their vehcile is covered in case that used Mercedes Benz gets wrecked, stolen or both. The leasing company that you choose will most likely want to be covered for the difference between what is owed on your vehicle at the time of the mishap. This type of insurance is called GAP insurance, short for Guaranteed Auto Protection, and is usually included in the leasing contract.
If your leasing company is Chrysler Financial or any other finance division of an automaker, then chances are your GAP insurance will be offered by the same lease company. There is no requirement to purchase GAP insurance from the Mercedes seller as part of your used Mercedes lease agreement. Why pay an insurance premium if you could get the same coverage for a cheaper cost? Take the time to shop around and compare quotes from other insurance providers, this includes your existing provider. Ask the provders for discounts that you qualify for with your current provider and adjust your coverage accordingly.
